Parihaka Poser

Years ago, there lived a tribe called ‘Parihaka.’ They lived in Taranaki.
One day an albatross flew onto the chief's house. The people decided that they should wear the feathers of the albatross because it was a spiritual bird and they thought it was good luck. One day soldiers came to Parihaka. The children of Parihaka did a welcoming dance for the soldiers, the women made bread. The soldiers felt really guilty because they were meant to take the men away to jail. They took the men to jail, and when it was time for them to come back, the soldiers trashed Parihaka! The people said "Once you leave, we will build again." The soldiers left. No one got harmed that day because the people of Parihaka declined to fight.
I enjoyed making the words and finding different colours.
I found it hard to make the albatross feather.
Next time I would add a colourful background.

The Materialiser: Drawing Doctor

Today, My reading group, "The Green Lanterns" had another task to do. We read a book called 'The Materialiser' it was about a boy, who went to clean a man's house, after school for pocket money. The Doctor to me, was very creepy looking! And I learned that he yells so much!
I enjoyed making the Doctor and creating his hair!
I found hard making his T- shirt and pants.
Next time I would add a bit more, to my drawing.

(If Your Wondering what the squares are, they are images, but they aren't showing...)

Smart Media

Today, My class had another Cybersmart lesson. We learned to know how to verify online information and to analyse the construction of digital media. We looked at different photos and found out which one's were fake, and real. See if you can guess which one's are fake and real!
I enjoyed making my photo
I found hard trying to find a water photo for my photo, instead I made my own.
Next time I would try add more animals to my photo.
Check out my own self- made photo! Real or Fake?

Laser Tag

Laser Tag
"SSHHUUMM!.." the laser went as it bounced off the wall, and hit the opponent in the chest.

Walking slowly, ducking and turning, trying to find my next enieme. In laser tag, my enemies were me, Vs Grandad, My brother, My cousin and two little boy's, Twins! One with glasses and one with none. Evil, I was sure of it.

We all had to go for each other. Suddenly, I saw something, tall and skinny it was running.
"It my next opponent!" I thought, creeping up, "Ppeewww!!" I lasered, hardly aming anywhere.

I heard more lasers coming my way! I ran... all of a sudden, my lights went off on my vest, I hid. Waiting for my lights to come back on, 5 seconds later my lights came back on.

I found the little boy with no glasses, "Shhuummm, Pheeww!!" we shot each other at the same time."Ha!Ha!" The boy laughed, "Um,.." I shrugged, lifting one eyebrow. "I got him! He missed me!?" I thought. He looked down at his vest "Oohh.." he said.

Since he said "Ha!Ha!" at me, I decided to go for him. At the end of the game,The lady took our vest's. Then she said,
"At the top of your screen, on your gun, It will say your game name. Then, on the TV it will say your place you came"

I looked at my gun, Then the screen, I noticed my name "Umbrella?" I asked, looking at my game name. I came 6th place. Out of laser tag we went!

Book Ghost: Making Running Gear

Today, My teacher put up new tasks, As we are reading a different book. Our new book this term is Ghost. It is about a boy who is very fast at running. He gave himself the name Ghost, because of the face a man gave him, As pale as a ghost. Today I made Running Gear for ghost to run in.
I had fun making the outfit for him!
I found It hard to polyline around the shoe, to make it like a real shoe.
Next time I would put a different background, so people would noticed it. I made my own brand too! My Brand is 'J ' for Jayda.
 Check it Out!

Napier Road Trip

"VVVRRRMMM!!..." went the roaring car as we entered Napier. We stopped at a large sideways 'C'.
"10 stories!" Dad told me as we entered the big front doors, "What level are we!?" I asked, "9..." Dad answered. Next to the building was a massive pool "Is that a pool!!?" "Nope!" I looked closely at the 'Thing'. It was a long deep square with water in it. We walked inside, Dad asked the lady what room we were in. I looked at my watch 10:00 at night it said. We grabbed our bags and walked to the entrance, Once again. I looked at the sign 'Scenic Hotel Napier' The blue tall sign said. We went up the elevator "Vmmm..." "Ding, Ting, Ping, Ding, Ting, Ping!" went the elevator door as it changed floors. We walked down the hall at level '9'. I looked at the window ledges "Red, orange, yellow, green, blue..." I said as I realise "It's a rainbow!" I said as we entered our room "243" a sign said glued to our door.

"Clink, Clink!" went the key to the door. We walked inside, "WAAOOHH!" we all yelled. "LUXURY BABY!" I screamed. Inside, One wooden brown cupboard, to the left a bathroom and an inch up - ahead two queen side tables, in front of them a TV, to the right a small kitchen. Next to the TV was a balcony overlooking half the city, the park and the ocean. In the morning everyone got changed. We opened up my curtains to see the sun rising! We waited for my brother to wake up and drove to the 'Aquarium of Napier' Once we got inside a man gave us  a map! The map had where everything was.

We walked towards the 'Walking Tank' It said on the glass that the fish were in, That freaked me out! "AAAHHHHH!!" I screamed as I saw a massive shark, I looked around "What's your favourite?" I asked my Mum, Dad and brother. "I like that massive shark." my dad said. "I like that tiny orange fish!" Mum answered. "Look, it's staring at me!" "My favourite is that stingray!" I said. Next, we went to the science room. "This is the smallest octopus in the world!" my dad told me. "SMALLEST!? It looks like the biggest!!" I said. We move on...
Next we went to another room, I saw an orange creepy fish. It was wrinkly and was staring at the bubbles at the top of his tank.We went to the gift shop, I got a gray shark teddy, then we went home to sweet home Gizzy!

My Speech

This week we presented our speeches.
I felt nervous, my arms were shaking and my teeth were chattering.
But at the end, I felt relieved! I was so happy I'm done.
We included our pepeha.
We had to use a clear voice, stand still, speak loudly, go at our own pace, look up at the crowd, use expression and be confident.
Our speeches needed to include a rhetorical question and be persuasive.
My speech was on Lions escaping the Rotorua lakefront circus 33 years ago.
Tihei Mauri ora!
Ko Pepeha Ki ahau
Ko Titirangi Te maunga
Ko Taruheru Te awa
Ko Horouta Te waka
Ko St Marys star of the sea Te marae
No Tamaki ahau
Ko Hato Maria toku kura
Ko Jayda ahau
No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.

Have you ever been to a circus? Well 33 years ago in the Rotorua lakefront lions escaped the Rotorua circus. Four big cats ran heroically all over town after they escaped there cage in a circus called the Whirling Brothers circus.

The owner and his wife had a black poodle called Lucy. Well the owner was doing his tricks in the big tent the wife let Lucy out of the caravan to go to the toilet, but the caravan is right next to the lions cages and Lucy got attracted by the lions meat and when over.

The lion sniffed Lucy from behind the bars, picked her up with its paw and was now in the lion's cage. Lucy tried to sniff the meat, but sadly the lion swiped her with its paw and killed Lucy.

The lions were shaking the cage and wobbling the cage. There were at least 500 people in the tent when it happened. Once the lions got out of their cage, the wife of the circus called the police amendly.

The first Policeman that came in his car, had to many things going on in front of him and went straight into a tree. The second police officer that came, he came on his motorbike, and he feel of his motorbike.

The Elfa lion got under the hospital, so the police and the owners built a cage. The police said “I'm not getting under there!” and the owner said “well I can't! I gotta close the cage!” so the wife stepped forward and said, “Well I’ll do it then!” she grabbed a broom and shooshed the lion out of under the hospital. They put all the lions back in one big cage, and that was the end of that show!

10 Doors

Today I had a reliever in for our class. She told us how to play a fun game called '10 Doors'. In 10 doors you choose a door and it will lead you to something that the 10 doors theme is. Your door can be good or bad. There will be 1 door that's good and 9 doors that are bad. My class had tried making their own. I did 10 doors to sudden DEATH. I hope you make it out!

Climate Change

This week me and my class have been learning about climate change. We had to write what climate change was, what the difference between climate change and global warming is and how it is affecting the Amazon forest. Enjoy!

My Writing

How can we stop climate change?
Do you know what climate change is?
Some people think that climate change and global warming are the same, but they're wrong.

Global warming is the world getting hotter. Climate change is changes to our climate like the glaciers melting making the sea levels rise. The sea temperature is warmer.

Fossil fuels and carbon dioxide are releasing too much hot air, but it can’t be reused like other things can.

Did you know that the Amazon forest is 20% of the earth's oxygen? The Amazon Forest is home to thousands of animals. Many people are cutting down trees to make wood for their fireplaces, palm oil and clearing the way to make bigger farm lands, roads, mines and dams. But there are tribes people living in the Amazon forest.

Believe it or not but when cows fart it is really bad for the earth's atmosphere. This might sound funny but when a cow farts it adds up! Methane gas builds up in there digestive system and releases a fart! When you think there are almost 1.5 billion cows farting all that gas, it sure is a real problem.

Most people might think, ‘Oh well, it's not hurting the wildlife.’ They are wrong. Certain species of animals are suffering more than others. Polar animals are at risk of dying. Since the glaciers are melting the polar bears have less sea ice to hunt for their prey.
Certain seal species like ringed seals make caves in the snow and ice to raise their pups, feed and mate.

Climate change also affects people. There are more storms and hotter weather for us to cope with.

I think climate change is bad because most animals are dying because their habitats are being destroyed. We need to stop climate change.

Sploosh Poster

Today I was learning how to make a poster using google drawings or google slides, to do this we needed to add the price, persuasive language to entice customers, eye catching images, were this item can be purchased and a celebrity endorsement (someone who is famous and you add them onto something) and a catchy slogan. (something that  people always say, such as a saying 'just do it')

I enjoyed making all the colours pop out and adding pictures and thinking of a catchy slogan.

I found it challenging to explain what my drink did and what it was.

Next time I would add more to my writing and make it make more sense.

Should Caged Chickens Be Banned

I learned about caged chickens and how their life is like.
I enjoyed writing the story about chickens.
I found it hard to make my story make sense.

Should caged chickens be banned?

Did you know that 32% of  chickens are caged. Each cage is smaller than an A4 piece of paper.

Chickens can’t act like normal chickens. Chickens get rickets because they get no vitamin D from the sun. Chickens don’t normally get time outside because the bigger hen’s think that there boss and don’t let the other chickens outside.

Since chickens aren't outside they can’t roll in the dirt to have a dust bath, can’t scratch themselves, scratch for food, perch, flab wings, can’t fly or build nests. This makes them stressed and make them aggressive and peck or try EAT each other.

Farmers trim the pecks to make them stop. When new born male chickens are 18 months of age, farmers give them gas to breath in and die. When chickens are in the cage they will get sick and get fatty liver disease as well as osteoporosis.

Please DON'T buy the eggs just because there cheaper to buy. Think of all the poor chickens.

This week my class had been learning about Tom
Fedro. Tom Fedro is an artist who paints pictures.
We did a lady posing with her shoulder in front
and her head behind it. We drew it first with pencil then we did  Black  paint over the pencil.
Then we blended colours and painted all in different spaces. Once we finished painting  we went over the black with more black paint. Then we painted the background, and put our names on our art. Check Out Mine!

We have been learning how to make an action selfie. We got a buddy and took turns taking photos of each other doing stuff we like. The first person would do an action, and the other would click the photo button. then we would put the photo onto a web site and the web site would take out the background, but leave you in it. I found it hard to put my photo in the right place, I really liked making the background and posting it on my blog.

Bee Facts

We have been learning about bees. Mrs McCormack brought in some bees for us to learn about and ask some questions about their life. They were in a glass hive so that we could see inside them. We had lots of fun learning about bees and decided that we should make a google slide and find some facts that we didn't know.
I enjoyed finding the facts and making the google slide.
I found it tricky converting miles to kilometres for one of my facts.

Summer

Outside, I see a warm, calm, orange sand, hot on my feet as I walk.
Shining, glimmering sun bursting with light.
